A fond memory I have of when I was little is walking around Kmart with my mom. It was one of my favorite stores as a kid because there were so many places to run around and hide. The circular clothes racks with long dresses on them was easiest to get inside and hide and peek around for Mom. I’d run up and down the toy aisles, I’d play with the giant bouncing plastic balls, and eventually I’d hear an announcement over the intercom asking me to come to the front. I realize now in retrospect that I was probably an annoying little kid. But I do remember one other thing: there would be announcements over the same intercom once in a while that would say “Attention Kmart shoppers: blue light special on aisle 3.” It was like a fun game to get over there and find the flashing blue light. I always thought it was so cool. I didn’t even really care about the sale.
But now as an adult, especially in this economy (both the U.S. and globally speaking) – we could all use a little blue light special now and then. There’s good news for my wallet and my nostalgia though – it seems Kmart is bringing back Blue Light Specials!
